What is the liposuction?
For the moment it is one of the most popular surgical interventions in the world, correcting the distortions that appear due to some fat deposits in more or less attractive parts of the body and do not regress as a result of diets or physical effort. It was noticed that the diet as well as physical exercises have a global effect in the decreasing of the fat tissue, the weight of the body is reduced, the thickness of the fat panicula is uniformly reduced but these deposits are not very influenced. People with a hereditary predisposition towards preferentially depositing the fat in some various zones will have even less success.

The principle of the method
The principle of the method consists in the selective extraction of the fat deposits, with the help of special cannulaes, until the expected line is obtained. These cannulaes are introduced through small incisions, 3-6 mm, which will not leave visible scars afterwards. The liposuction cannulaes are connected to a surgical vacuum and they are provided with inlets that are used for suction. A reduction of the volume appears in the liposuctioned zones and the desired figure is obtained. This effect is a permanent one and it lasts even if the body tends to accumulate fat again.

Remember!
The liposuction is not a treatment for the generalized obesity. It does not correct the cellulite or the stretch marks; it does not make impressive corrections of the figure. It is possible that a new liposuction is needed, after a few months, for the accentuation of the result.
The skin superjacent to the liposuctioned zone may remain in excess after the suction of the fat deposit. Generally this excess of skin recedes. In the cases in which the skin excess does not recede, a surgical excision is necessary.
The imperfections of the zones levelness and smoothness are also a problem.
In a single surgical intervention, a quantity between 2 and 4l of fat can be extracted. If this quantity is exceeded, it is necessary a blood transfusion. Liposuction can offer you an aesthetical, harmonious and attractive figure.

Preoperatory consultation
The patient must present his/her entire clinical record to the doctor insisting especially on the problems regarding the blood coagulation, the evolution of the scars or of the intercurrent infections, if any.
The patient must make her/his own realistic opinion about the possibilities of the technique, about the intervention and about the recuperation period.

About the surgical intervention
The anesthesia may be a local one, for small and medium quantities of extracted fat, or a general one for larger quantities. The fact that in a liposuction session, the quantity of 3000 cc is the maximum that can be extracted, without a transfusion of isogroup blood, is unanimously admitted.
Liposuction is performed with cannulaes with a thickness up to 12 mm that will be introduced through incisions of the same sizes. Due to this technique the scars will be imperceptible; the subdermic suture does not leave scars.

About the complications
The complications of this intervention are of a low frequency, they are treatable and the consequences are almost non-existent. In the literature there are references to the edema, the haematoma, the serum, the suprainfection of the liposuctioned zone. Thrombophlebetis, pulmonary trombembolism may rarely appear, with a more serious evolution.

Postoperatory
After the intervention, a compressive bandage will be placed with a corset or compression stockings over it. The massage of the liposuctioned zones is started 3 days postoperatory and continues some months.
Mild pain may appear postoperatory, they respond to ordinary analgesics (ketorol, algocalmin, etc), but the most frequent sensation is of constriction, tension, that restrains the dynamic mobilization.
The social activities and professional responsibilities can be resumed after 3 days. After 2 postoperatory weeks the massage of the liposuctioned zones is absolutely necessary and it continues for a few months, because the liposuctioned zones are not perfectly even and, through the massage, the fat is redistributed.
A minimum 24 hour hospitalization is necessary for the interventions with large quantity extraction.
