The purpose of the intervention
The purpose of this intervention is the lifting of the breast, without reducing the volume or by minimal reduction for balancing reasons, re-creating its curvy, aesthetical and proportional shapes; an optimal position of the mammary areola. It is addressed to the women whose breasts suffer from ptosis, meaning that they are “fallen” from their optimal position, or to the breasts that are also asymmetrical in their position, when the intervention is unilateral.

The normal breast
The optimal position of the breast and its optimal volume are important elements when choosing the final result. Classically the position of the nipple is described as being at a distance of 18-22 cm from the middle of the clavicle or at 1-2 cm under the line between the middle of the arms. The optimal volume is considered to be 275 cc, when it is less than 200 cc the breast is underdeveloped, and over 350 cc the breast become hypertrophical with ptosis tendencies.

Remember!

This procedure restores the esthetical appearance of the breast, with an optimal volume and position. The mammary areola has an optimal and symmetrical position.
There will be rare circumareolar, subareolar scars, or scars in the submammary groove.
These scars will remain more or less visible, or they could burst and require a reintervention for scar revision.
The intervention is not a mutilating one, pregnancy and breastfeeding being possible as generally there is no intervention at the level of the glands. The surgical operation has long-term results.
For shaping reasons, it is necessary to keep on wearing a brassiere for about 3 months after the intervention.

Consultation and analysis
The patient will report her entire medical history insisting on the medical problems of the breast, pains, inflammations, surgical operations, personal physiological clinical record, the number of births and abortions, breastfeeding period, the installation of the first menstruation, of the climacteric period, the types of birth controls used.
The required preoperatory analysis: analysis of the blood, urine, the radiological examining of the breast - mammography/scopy, the examination by a specialized oncologist.

The surgical intervention
The intervention takes place under total anesthesia and it lasts for about 1-3 h. Postoperatory pain and the feeling of tension are minimum and endurable especially in the first 24-48 h. Cold local applications reduce the inflammation and the pains. Postoperatory, the bandages are changed every day and later the period between the bandages will be increased.
Most of the stitches are reabsorbable or can be removed in 10-14 days. When the evolution is complex, a 1-5 day hospitalization is necessary.

About complications
The complications are generally minimum, less than after the reduction mammoplasty. Complications as the haematoma, the serum, the suprainfection, small cutaneous mortifications are easily resolved by treatment. The most unpleasant problem is the burst of the scars, and the need to review the scar tissue after a period of at least 6 months.

Results
The intervention is not a mutilating one, pregnancy and breastfeeding being possible approximately 1 year after the operation.
The results last long time; it is possible a minimum ptosis, but without an aesthetic alteration from the postoperatory position.

Recommendations
The socio-professional responsibilities may be resumed gradually after the first week.
The normal sex-life can be resumed in 3 weeks after the operation.
It is recommended to keep on wearing a bustier or a brassiere well adapted to the new shape and volume of the breasts for about 3 weeks after the operation. The patients can procure surgical brassieres with anti-decubitus support.
The local hygiene is possible after removing the bandage.
