Marek VALCU M.D "Our aim at Silhouette Clinic is to be a leading provider of
State-Of-the-Art Plastic Surgery in this area, by setting the standard
for quality care."
Preoperatory
arrangements
The preoperatory period is slightly different in our activity
and our daily behavior, preparing the surgical intervention.
We will avoid consuming aspirin or equivalent compounds, for
minimum 14 days before the intervention, because they can cause
bleedings and the alteration of the coagulation process. The
usage of oral birthcontrole pills will be stopped about 21-28
days before the intervention. The usage of tobacco and alcohol
must be avoided for more than 48 hours before the intervention.
EATING OR DRINKING IS FORBIDDEN FOR MINIMUM 6 HOURS BEFORE THE
INTERVENTION.
The patient will come to the clinic accompanied by someone,
with his/her personal hygenical objects and without jewellery
or other unnecessary valuable objects.
Makeup, nail polish or lipstick should be avoided.
The medical staff will be informed if you are wearing a dental
prosthesis or contact lenses and they will be all deposited
in a safe place. What we have to know about the preoperatory period
The patient will come to the clinic at the appointed hour and
date. The patient will be received by a member of the medical
staff and will be invited to a place where she/he will put on
the pyjamas and will deposit her/his personal objects for safe
keeping.
Formalities to be fulfilled: the Admission Form (Hospitalization
Form), the Hospitalization Diagnostic and the Medical Consultation
of the current state of health.
Before the operation, the patient will be visited by the anesthesia
doctor and by the operating doctor and operating team in order
to fill in the current health state of the patient through questions
and answers addressed by both parts. The operating doctor and
his/her team will choose their reference points and they will
draw out the operation plan.
A last consultation is performed by the anesthesia doctor. The
patient will inform the doctor in case she/he is wearing a dental
prosthesis, contact lenses or other kind of prostheses.
The patient has been in an alimentary rest for at least 6 hours.
The operatory contract is signed and the payment is done before
the intervention, unless they were done previously, etc.
The postoperatory period
Wakening up from the anesthesia
Right after the operation the patient wakes up from the anesthesia
and can communicate with the operatory team. She/He feels
a slightly confusing state of tiredness ameliorated in the
next couple of minutes, when the conscious state has a pregnant
come back. There are neither pains, nor any other unpleasant
sensations. The patient is in a good state and is detached
from the surgical intervention.
The patient rests, having a quasi normal sleep, for a few
hours until the effects of the general anesthesia are totally
eliminated.
Pains
After this period, the patient feels just a sensation of tension
at the operated zone level, sensation that is remitted in
24-48 hours. The apparition of pains is possible but they
easily cede with analgesics. During this entire period the
patient lies in the postoperatory bed under the attentive
control of a nurse and –eventually - of an anesthesia
doctor.
Patient discharge
After 12-24 hours, the operatory team checks the state of
the patient and that of the intervention, and decides upon
the patient discharge. The complications may extend the hospitalization
period. In case of ample interventions the patient remains
hospitalized for more than two days.
When going back home, the patient must be accompanied by someone.
When the patient is discharged, she/he will receive instructions
about the medication - antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, etc
- and about the life regime. The first days spent at home
are difficult due to the decreased movement ability, the required
medical and hygienic care, the wearing of bandages and brassieres,
conformators and elastic stockings.
In the more complex cases, it is recommended to ask for the
services of a competent house nurse. During this period the
general state of the patient must be tracked mainly by the
patient itself and by the people around her/him. Any modifications
of the state of consciousness, the rhythm of the breath, the
pulls and arterial tensions are reported to the cabinet or
to the doctor.
Fortunately, the general complications arisen when the patient
is at home are almost inexistent.
When changing the bandages or when extracting the stitches,
small bleedings are possible. The bandages and the stitches
are eliminated without pain, after 10-14 days. The corporal
hygiene will be done in the same conditions but attention
will be paid so that the bandages do not get wet.
The circumspect states of the result
The first days after the intervention, the patient goes through
an ambiguous period as regards the esthetical result. This
is due to the fact that the operated zone is covered with
bandages, the patient is quite curious, and locally the surgical
wounds follow their natural evolution. There are edemas, ecchymoses
and zones with a lower or even a higher sensitivity, indicating
a normal postoperatory evolution. Another element that impresses
the patient is the fact that she/he knows that unwanted evolutions
or even complications may appear. The patient need not to
be restless, because she/he is attended by the doctor until
her/his full recovery, and all precautions are taken against
any possible complications.
Hypercorrection
Many times the immediate results can be corrected in a few
weeks, more than we might have thought. This is a rule for
some interventions because in the next months, during the
cicatrisation and scar revision period, the tissues can suffer
a normal ptosis process with small amplitude.
Social life
While wearing the bandages, the social life will be reduced
as much as possible.
